Drag Racing Remote Camera Destroyed

Yes, there is a racing wreck here, but it’s almost more tragic to see what happened to the $11,000 worth of camera equipment.

How gutting it must have been to be sports photographer Mark Rebilas on that fateful day at the race tracks in Bakersfield, California. Watch the video to see the carnage…but don’t forget the Kleenex.

Video: Danny Thompson’s 265-mph Mustang crash from inside the car

Danny Thompson, the son of Mickey Thompson, has a need for speed that’s satiated when he hits the salt flats in his 1,300-horsepower Ford Mustang. Thompson had previously recorded a top speed of 252 miles per hour but recently headed back to the flat lands for an attempt at the 300-mph mark. Problems arose as Danny passed 260 mph. The car began to lift and then left the ground at approximately 264.7 mph. Danny and his Mustang traveled 1,100 feet before returning to the salt and the car tumbled further before coming to a stop.

Amazingly, and a testament to just how good proper safety equipment is, Danny escaped from the wreck with no injuries. He didn’t have minor injuries, scratches or bruises… he was completely unharmed. Well, maybe physically, as a wreck like that can probably keep you awake at night for a few months. Also unharmed? The iPhone 4 sitting in his front pocket.

Clay Millican’s Top Fuel IHRA flip from July, 2005 at Milan Dragway

Information is from the Competition Plus website

Clay Millican, the four-time defending IHRA Top Fuel champion at the time of this photo, experienced a complete blowover in his semifinal round against Bruce Litton. Millican was traveling at over 200 miles per hour when the front wheels of his ’05 Hadman Dragster lifted off the ground at half track and did not stop. He ended up blowing all the way over before skidding well past the finish line before coming to a stop upside down.

IHRA safety personnel arrived at the scene within seconds and Millican climbed out of the car almost immediately. He was talking with the safety crew and the track doctor and was reportedly cutting up with the paramedics en route to the hospital, where he was taken as a precautionary measure.
