Have you ever wondered just how much control the human mind can have over the physical world? If Bill Wimble is any indication, the answer is a whole lot, if you really choose to concentrate.
Two years ago Wimble, the ultra-popular 1960 and 1961 NASCAR National Sportsman champion, came up to the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame banquet as he does each year. Word got out that he had been afflicted by a very serious form of throat cancer, and he was given loud and loving, standup applause. Obviously moved, Wimble told the gathering, “Doggone it, with your help I AM going to beat this thing.”
One of the common, angry refrains that veteran 24 Hours of LeMons teams voice is the fact that the $500 junker series keeps increasing the safety requirements, especially when it comes to roll cages. After all, their cage passed the tech inspection last time, no problem. Why the hassle, man?
It can be safely assumed however, that the driver of the Ford Escort ZX2 sees no problem with tighter, tougher (and yes, safer) LeMons roll cage requirements. First and foremost, the driver walked away from the wreck (it took place at last weekend’s Gator-O-Rama 2010 race near Houston, TX) with zero injuries. Second of all, the following video is a very good lesson in why your wheels shouldn’t stick out past your car’s fenders. Sadly, the AMC Gremlin that the Escort climbed up isn’t visible. However, you can see a little piece of its side wing airborne in the image above. Watch the video, after the jump.
A Ferrari F430 Spyder fell from the top level of a delivery truck at Ernie Boch’s luxury car dealership outside of Boston. The only funny part? Watching the windshield wipers running in the video.

Only ten days ago Jonny Greaves jumped his closed-course race truck from one dirt ramp to another — those ramps being separated by close to 300 feet. Greaves ended up going 301 feet, and set the record for the longest ever jump in a 2WD truck. It’s even more fun to watch than to read about, if only because his engine makes his Toyota sound like it’s powered by demons and banshees.
Travis Pastrana spent New Year’s Eve preparing to drive his Red Bull Subaru WRX STI off of a ramp, over 250-or-so feet of water, and onto another ramp floating on a barge. In earlier practices for the jump, at first he didn’t stick the landing, then he skipped the landing part entirely. The New Year’s event would be for keeps, though.

There were two Lexus LF-As entered into last week’s Nurburgring 24 Hour race prepared by the Gazoo Racing Team. This is what happened to one of them, car #15, about two hours from the end of the enduro.
Here’s a Lamborghini Diablo crash caught on video.
The damage done to the truck looks to be light, but the damage to the front of the Diablo and more importantly, to the driver’s ego, is gonna be a whole lot more expensive and time consuming to fix. Is it any surprise this overly confident tool leaves the scene so quick?
